Having suffered from low back pain from a young age and being riddled with injuries during high school athletics, Ben started his journey of pursuing solutions to his physical problems by joining the Kinesiology program at Simon Fraser University. While learning the basics of anatomy and muscle imbalances, he found that the corrective methods he was being taught were not providing any kind of lasting relief.
Doing his own research outside of school, he tried all sorts of approaches to strength, mobility, and rehab, but always felt like he was spinning his wheels. After following an aggressive mobility protocol, he ended up with an achilles injury that kept him from running for almost 2 years, and no answers for the back pain. He then began studying the Functional Patterns training system online, and began to understand how his previous training was well intentioned, but incomplete.
In order to bring his body into balance, Ben had to change the way he breathed, stood, walked, and ran. It was a more complex endeavour than any other approach he had tried, but he could feel how his spine was decompressing, pain was diminishing, and his athleticism was far surpassing the plateaus he had hit with traditional training. He’s now able to sprint without pain, his back is better than ever, and has firsthand experience to pull from when guiding others down the path of restoring optimal function.
Ben continually expands his knowledge of the human body and movement so that he has the best tools to help himself and others with their problems. His goal is to teach others a framework that allows them to assess and heal themselves. Many clients report a sense of lightness and relief of their long term pains after training consistently with Ben. If you’ve tried everything out there and haven’t got the results you need, book an assessment with Ben to dig deeper to the root of your problems.
